<p>大家好，我是X同學(xué)。畢業(yè)于上海應(yīng)用技術(shù)大學(xué)，材料科學(xué)與工程學(xué)院。在24fall申請(qǐng)季中收到了JHU、CMU、WUSTL、UCL、愛(ài)丁堡、曼大、悉尼大學(xué)等多個(gè)offer，借此機(jī)會(huì)，我想跟大家聊聊天，講述我的一些申請(qǐng)經(jīng)歷，各位就權(quán)當(dāng)是茶余飯后的消遣，隨意看看吧。</p> <h1><strong>早早開(kāi)始的雅思考試</strong></h1> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>我很早就有了出國(guó)留學(xué)的打算，在大二上學(xué)期的寒假前，家里親戚推薦了指南者留學(xué)這個(gè)中介機(jī)構(gòu)，經(jīng)過(guò)與機(jī)構(gòu)老師多次溝通之后，我決定與指南者簽約。指南者的老師很快就將整個(gè)留學(xué)的過(guò)程詳細(xì)地進(jìn)行了梳理，具體到每個(gè)時(shí)間點(diǎn)應(yīng)該做什么事情。所以我立馬就開(kāi)始準(zhǔn)備各種考試、競(jìng)賽、實(shí)習(xí)、科研。剛上大二時(shí)，我的績(jī)點(diǎn)不高，只有3.5出頭，所以老師給我制定的計(jì)劃是大二上要提高到3.55，大二下3.6，大三上3.7，大三下3.8。我也成功在提交申請(qǐng)前將績(jī)點(diǎn)提升到了3.9。由于留學(xué)規(guī)劃比較早，我在大二上學(xué)期的寒假就開(kāi)始準(zhǔn)備雅思考試了，這個(gè)假期我主要是在實(shí)習(xí)，所以并沒(méi)有集中性的備考雅思，只是在空余時(shí)間看看課，刷刷題，了解一下雅思考試的各種題型。因?yàn)樯晕⒂悬c(diǎn)英語(yǔ)的底子，我在備考前期刷題的正確率就已經(jīng)不算低了，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>聽(tīng)力和閱讀的分?jǐn)?shù)差不多能到8左右，寫(xiě)作還是主要練習(xí)文章的整體結(jié)構(gòu)，保證大方向不出錯(cuò)，小分過(guò)關(guān)即可。</strong></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img style="display: block; <p>考完雅思后，便進(jìn)入了寒假，我徹底擺爛了，雅思成績(jī)沒(méi)出來(lái)，也不想看GRE，如果雅思沒(méi)過(guò)線，那還得繼續(xù)考雅思，輪不到GRE。終于在焦急但又無(wú)所事事的等待后，我的雅思成績(jī)出來(lái)了，總分過(guò)線了，小分也過(guò)線了。我非常開(kāi)心，不用考雅思了，但是我這一開(kāi)心就開(kāi)心了一整個(gè)假期，GRE幾乎毫無(wú)進(jìn)展，一整個(gè)假期就背了三分之一的單詞書(shū)，而且與其說(shuō)是背，不如說(shuō)是看，因?yàn)楦緵](méi)記住。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h1><strong>交白卷也能有300分？</strong></h1> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>開(kāi)學(xué)后就更加沒(méi)時(shí)間備考了，我也就一拖再拖，拖到不能再拖了，4月2號(hào)報(bào)名參加了第一次GRE考試。在考試的前一天，我也只是勉強(qiáng)背完一遍單詞書(shū)，只是有時(shí)候能知道這個(gè)單詞我背到過(guò)，但是具體什么意思就不得而知了。題目更是沒(méi)怎么刷過(guò)，也不怎么會(huì)做。&nbsp;就這樣，我迎來(lái)了第一次考試，在去考場(chǎng)的路上，坐在家長(zhǎng)的車?yán)?，我還在看知乎上有人總結(jié)的作文公式，但到最后也沒(méi)用上。首先上來(lái)的是作文部分，我已經(jīng)不記得備考時(shí)準(zhǔn)備的結(jié)構(gòu)，也不記得論證的方法，自由發(fā)揮。最后，我連最低字?jǐn)?shù)要求都沒(méi)達(dá)到。連蒙帶猜做完二輪verbal和兩次數(shù)學(xué)，來(lái)到了最后的verbal部分，我已經(jīng)毫無(wú)斗志，隨便瞎蒙了幾個(gè)，就等時(shí)間自己走完。交卷后就能立馬看到自己的成績(jī)，我看了一眼，語(yǔ)文141，數(shù)學(xué)161，光速點(diǎn)擊下一頁(yè)，生怕其他考生看到我的成績(jī)。離開(kāi)考場(chǎng)，取走寄存的物品，走出大門(mén)，我看見(jiàn)家長(zhǎng)在不遠(yuǎn)處等我，我還是以一種面無(wú)表情的樣子走過(guò)去，我告訴家長(zhǎng)我的成績(jī)是302分，她問(wèn)我滿分多少分，我回答400分，<strong><span style="color: #1890ff;">她說(shuō)我考的不錯(cuò)，我沒(méi)回應(yīng)她，但我知道交白卷也能有300分。</span></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" <p>在此之后，我認(rèn)識(shí)到了事情的緊迫性，開(kāi)始抓緊備考GRE，那段時(shí)光也是我大學(xué)里最艱難的時(shí)光之一，每天除了上課、寫(xiě)作業(yè)，就是背GRE單詞、刷題。到了期末更是難上加難，我仍記得在食堂排隊(duì)買飯的時(shí)候，還在一邊復(fù)習(xí)期末考試。我家長(zhǎng)當(dāng)時(shí)也替我著急，說(shuō)要不要報(bào)個(gè)班，我其實(shí)不是很想報(bào)班，但是我自己當(dāng)時(shí)也很急，于是就報(bào)了一個(gè)班，大概上了半個(gè)月，天天上。<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>上完之后，我感覺(jué)其實(shí)也沒(méi)太大用，還得靠自己悟，多刷題。</strong></span>所以我每天就是刷題+看b站網(wǎng)課，那段時(shí)間真是非常煎熬，有時(shí)候會(huì)感覺(jué)自己撐不下去，有點(diǎn)崩潰。當(dāng)然，比起第一次考試的我，現(xiàn)在的我已經(jīng)背了四五遍單詞書(shū)，已經(jīng)能記住一半多的單詞，題目也刷了不少，總結(jié)出了一些技巧，正確率也有了提高。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h1><strong>痛苦程度99%的GRE</strong></h1> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>如果說(shuō)雅思的痛苦程度是1%，那么GRE的痛苦程度應(yīng)該是99.99%，感覺(jué)正確率提上去，我在7月21號(hào)參加了第二次考試，當(dāng)時(shí)我所在的城市已經(jīng)沒(méi)有考位了，我和我家長(zhǎng)提前兩天乘高鐵到隔壁的城市蘇州，在考場(chǎng)旁邊訂了個(gè)酒店。這次考試，我從一開(kāi)始就上緊了發(fā)條，寫(xiě)作時(shí)打字速度絲毫不敢怠慢，但最后我還是沒(méi)有達(dá)到預(yù)期的字?jǐn)?shù)。做完verbal做數(shù)學(xué)，做完數(shù)學(xué)交卷。我看到了自己的分?jǐn)?shù)，verbal提高了12分，但數(shù)學(xué)部分只提高了一分，我當(dāng)時(shí)真的有點(diǎn)說(shuō)不出的難受，如果我數(shù)學(xué)部分能提高個(gè)5分，我總分就達(dá)到了320，我也許就不想再考了。但我現(xiàn)在是315分，分?jǐn)?shù)還不夠。出考場(chǎng)見(jiàn)到家長(zhǎng)，我面無(wú)表情的告訴了她我的總分。我家長(zhǎng)還是夸我有進(jìn)步，verbal部分提高了很多，就是數(shù)學(xué)稍微差了點(diǎn)?；氐骄频辏壹议L(zhǎng)問(wèn)我要不要繼續(xù)考，我有點(diǎn)猶豫，但還是打開(kāi)了報(bào)名網(wǎng)站，報(bào)名了一個(gè)半月后的考試，我們收拾了一下行李便啟程回家。我依稀記得當(dāng)時(shí)我所在的城市下暴雨，我坐在高鐵上，從一個(gè)陽(yáng)光明媚的城市駛進(jìn)暴雨交加的城市，我在高鐵上吃著車站買的貴價(jià)肯德基漢堡，雖然感覺(jué)很餓，但是怎么也吃不下去。</p> <p>之后的日子，我依舊認(rèn)真?zhèn)淇?，絲毫不敢懈怠，單詞書(shū)現(xiàn)在兩天就能過(guò)完一整本，能記住一大半的單詞，數(shù)學(xué)題也刷的差不多，各種知識(shí)點(diǎn)，專業(yè)詞匯也都掌握了。于是，在9月2號(hào)，我迎來(lái)了第三次也是最后一次GRE考試，我知道這次考試如果不出分，那也沒(méi)機(jī)會(huì)考了（兩次考試間隔一個(gè)月）。這次去更遠(yuǎn)一些的城市杭州考試，依舊提前兩天。由于酒店離考點(diǎn)很近，我只提前了半個(gè)小時(shí)出發(fā)，但是杭州的考點(diǎn)浙江大學(xué)紫金港校區(qū)實(shí)在是太大了，進(jìn)校門(mén)后找不到去考場(chǎng)的路，于是我在本校生的指引下，找到了路，小跑著到達(dá)了考場(chǎng)。其實(shí)我已經(jīng)遲到了，但是工作人員還是允許我進(jìn)入等候區(qū)，我在教室里所有人的注視下，找到了個(gè)座位，放下熟悉的礦泉水和巧克力，去上了個(gè)廁所，等我回到等候室，發(fā)現(xiàn)已經(jīng)人去樓空了，于是我找到工作人員，讓他帶我進(jìn)入對(duì)應(yīng)的機(jī)房。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>我平復(fù)了一下心情，開(kāi)始考試，寫(xiě)作還是依舊沒(méi)有寫(xiě)滿字?jǐn)?shù)要求，但我知道過(guò)線還是可以的。艱難地做完verbal后，迎來(lái)了也許是我人生中最后一輪的GRE考試部分，題目難度沒(méi)有下降，當(dāng)時(shí)我已經(jīng)有點(diǎn)懵了，感覺(jué)腦子已經(jīng)轉(zhuǎn)不過(guò)來(lái)了，但還是憑借意志做完了所有的題目。提交后，屏幕顯示出我的分?jǐn)?shù)，verbal 159，數(shù)學(xué)169，我不敢相信我的眼睛。我反復(fù)看了好幾遍分?jǐn)?shù)，甚至在草稿紙上演算了一下三位數(shù)加法，發(fā)現(xiàn)分?jǐn)?shù)沒(méi)錯(cuò)。我當(dāng)時(shí)太激動(dòng)了，出了考場(chǎng)的樓就打開(kāi)手機(jī)給家長(zhǎng)打電話，告訴她我的成績(jī)，她也非常高興。我激動(dòng)地從考場(chǎng)一路跑到了校門(mén)口，看見(jiàn)家長(zhǎng)在門(mén)口等我，她夸我考得太好了。在回家的高鐵上，我看著夕陽(yáng)西下，聽(tīng)著耳機(jī)里播放的歌曲，別提有多快活。</p> <h1><strong>兩個(gè)世界前十的offer！</strong></h1> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>由于在申請(qǐng)截止的前的一個(gè)月內(nèi)，我的GRE還是沒(méi)有出分，再加上我也不確定英國(guó)那邊的學(xué)校UCL、愛(ài)丁堡和曼大會(huì)不會(huì)給我offer，所以我額外申請(qǐng)了悉尼大學(xué)的計(jì)算機(jī)項(xiàng)目，如果我最后只能去悉尼大學(xué)，那我干脆直接轉(zhuǎn)碼。23年的7月，我申請(qǐng)了這個(gè)項(xiàng)目，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>一個(gè)月不到的時(shí)間，悉尼大學(xué)就給我了offer</strong></span>，我當(dāng)時(shí)沒(méi)有很意外，因?yàn)槲抑牢业谋尘笆强梢陨暾?qǐng)上的。23年的10月份，我提交了英國(guó)那邊的申請(qǐng)。11月頭，我提交了美國(guó)的申請(qǐng)。</p> #1890ff;"><strong>愛(ài)丁堡的offer</strong></span>，我感覺(jué)愛(ài)丁堡不是這么好申的，再加上跟我同一個(gè)學(xué)校的學(xué)長(zhǎng)去的就是愛(ài)丁堡，并且他的背景比我好很多，所以我感到有點(diǎn)意外。又過(guò)了幾天，我同樣<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>在課上收到了UCL的offer</strong></span>，雖然前幾天收到了愛(ài)丁堡的offer，但我還是感到非常意外，UCL可是QS排名前十的大學(xué)啊，我居然收到了這所大學(xué)的offer。我當(dāng)時(shí)就在想，如果美國(guó)那邊沖刺的學(xué)校都不要我，那我就直接去UCL了，畢竟排名太高了。隨后又過(guò)了幾天，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>曼大給我發(fā)了offer</strong></span>，我當(dāng)時(shí)沒(méi)有太意外，因?yàn)榍皟伤鶎W(xué)校已經(jīng)讓我來(lái)到了本不屬于我的高度。時(shí)間又過(guò)去了兩個(gè)月，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>在春節(jié)前夕，我收到了圣路易斯華盛頓大學(xué)的offer</strong></span>，我并沒(méi)有很關(guān)注，因?yàn)楫?dāng)時(shí)的我眼里已經(jīng)只有JHU、CMU、西北和密歇根安娜堡這四所沖刺學(xué)校了。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>又過(guò)了幾天，當(dāng)我還沉浸在過(guò)節(jié)的喜悅之中時(shí)，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>JHU發(fā)來(lái)了offer</strong></span>，我再也坐不住了，JHU，這所當(dāng)時(shí)看起來(lái)遙不可及，甚至曾一度被我誤認(rèn)為是藤校的大學(xué)，向我拋出了橄欖枝，當(dāng)時(shí)我們?nèi)胰硕己芨吲d，感覺(jué)是有史以來(lái)最高興的一次春節(jié)了。又過(guò)了幾天，<span style="color: #1890ff;"><strong>CMU也給我發(fā)了offer</strong></span>，我一時(shí)不知該如何選擇，但我還是想等一等西北和密歇根安娜堡這兩所?？上?，等到臨近截止日期，也沒(méi)等來(lái)這兩所學(xué)校的offer，西北在截止日前兩周把我拒了，密歇根安娜堡更是杳無(wú)音訊。于是我就在JHU和CMU里做選擇，很巧的是我的高中同學(xué)，同時(shí)也是我在高中畢業(yè)后還聯(lián)系的為數(shù)不多的朋友，也準(zhǔn)備去JHU，但是他讀的是金融，所以不在主校區(qū)，離主校區(qū)很遠(yuǎn)，而我在主校區(qū)。如果他在主校區(qū)讀書(shū)，那我可能就會(huì)直接去JHU了。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>JHU所在的地區(qū)是犯罪發(fā)生率非常高的地區(qū)之一，所以我非常害怕，但同時(shí)又非常眼饞他的USNEWS綜合排名。<span style="color: #0086d1;"><strong><span style="color: #1890ff;">CMU綜合排名雖然低了一點(diǎn)，但是專業(yè)排名比JHU高</span></strong>。</span>跟家長(zhǎng)討論了很久，家長(zhǎng)也咨詢了很多老師，最后我們還是決定去CMU。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: <p>當(dāng)我在寫(xiě)這個(gè)申請(qǐng)經(jīng)驗(yàn)的文案時(shí)，我也在回顧總結(jié)自己這三年的點(diǎn)點(diǎn)滴滴。你說(shuō)痛苦吧，是有點(diǎn)。你說(shuō)最后我以一個(gè)雙非二本的背景，申請(qǐng)上了QS前十，USNEWS前十的學(xué)校吧，確實(shí)還挺開(kāi)心。但我知道，這些的痛苦，還不算苦，有家人朋友在身邊，這些苦又算什么。當(dāng)我只身一人來(lái)到美國(guó)，打開(kāi)公寓大門(mén)，映入眼簾的是家徒四壁的經(jīng)典留子開(kāi)局，家人朋友在地球的另一邊，我知道后面會(huì)有更多的挑戰(zhàn)。</p>
